Receiving The Orange Envelope

Jessa Stein – Denver, CO
Pitzer was and always will be my dream school. I applied ED to Pitzer College and everyday I am reminded of how happy I am here. The day that I got into Pitzer is one of the best days of my life that I will never forget. It was December, finals for my senior year in high school and I knew that the letters had been mailed. It had also been the hardest it has ever been to concentrate on school because I was just waiting for that letter. I could barely sleep and told my parents that I would only go to Pitzer. My whole family was on edge.

I thought that I would not get the letter until that Wednesday, but on Monday I was driving home from school and I saw something orange taped to my front door. I was still driving half way down the street when I saw the orange on my door. I had no idea I was going to be so emotional but in that moment I burst into tears and I jumped out of the car… I had not parked the car. When I got out and the car was still moving I remembered that I have to park my car, so I jumped back in and parked my car on the wrong side of the street. I ran from my car through my fence and forgot to close it, which was problematic since we had a new puppy. I got to the door and took it down from where my father had taped it and was sobbing. My dad then opened the door with tears streaming down his face and we hugged for minutes just sobbing of happiness.

My mother then appeared behind us and she was sobbing and the three of us just hugged for such a long time. I then of course pulled out my phone and called everyone that I could think of. I also distinctly remember that we had people over who were cleaning our house and they just saw my mother, father, and me just hugging and sobbing a bright orange letter and I think that they thought that we were crazy.

Now I am almost done with my first year at Pitzer College and all I have to say is that I never knew I could be so happy somewhere. This is the only place for me and I believe the students here are going to change the world in amazing ways.
